Round 3 of the Polo Cup Extreme Festival took place at the Aldo Scribante raceway in Port Elizabeth on 29 May, with VW Squadra Corse once again fielding Nathi Msimanga and Reaobaka (Baksi) Komane.
Msimanga secured a tenth position in the qualifying and Reaobaka (Baksi) Komane was able to claim 15th position for the starting grid.
In race 1 Msimanga had a challenging first lap and fought hard throughout the race, to finish 7th. Komane was unfortunately bogged down at the start, which resulted in him losing his position and falling back to 19th, but in true Squadra Corse fighting spirit he managed to claw his way back to 16th. “Nathi went on to finish 8th, another top 10 in this season for the young gun. We are truly proud of him,” says Elijah Gumbi, owner and manager of the Squadra Corse team.
Race 2 was a 30-minute + 1 lap race. “Nathi started in 7th but unfortunately collided with another driver in the first lap. This caused him to fall off the track and lose all his positions and he sadly ended up at the back of the pack. In his indomitable way, he pushed hard to get through the field and ended up 12th for the race. Baksi started 13th but he had a hard, long race and ended up finishing 17th,” says Gumbi.
The overall results for the day were Msimanga in 11th place and Komane in 17th place. “What this displays is that a driver must never give up, no matter how bleak things may seem. There’s always that extra bit of fight left in you and you need to draw on this and push hard,” says Gumbi.
