Two More Wins for Squadra Corse

The winning trend is continuing at Squadra Corse, with the OKJ and Mini MAX boys fixing their eyes firmly on the gold. The racing over the weekend of 19 February at MSA Northern Regions Karting – Round 1, held at Zwartkops International Raceway followed the previous week’s gold medal place for Junior Max class driver Jayden Goosen.

After a second place in the qualifying heat, Mahlori Mabunda easily romped home with a first in all three OKJ races, securing the gold medal for the day. Brother Ntiyiso was third in the qualifier and finished fourth overall for the day after a first, third and DNF in the three races.

Sebastian Dias, who joined the Squadra Corse Mini ROK team in January this year, is already showing his winning colours, with two seconds and a third, earning him first place for the day. Teammates Enzo Rujugiro and Tshepang Shisinwana brought home fourth and fifth places respectively. “We have seen Enzo come on in leaps and bounds over the past year, evidenced by his third, fourth and fifth places over the three races. Similarly, Tshepang, who has had a break from racing with us for some time, is quickly getting up to speed, achieving a fourth, sixth and eighth for the day,” says Mpho Eli Gumbi, owner and team principal of the Squadra Corse team.   “We are thrilled with the enthusiasm these boys show and their dedication to constantly improving is apparent in their performance. We are grateful to our principal sponsor – Volkswagen South Africa as well as the support of Würth, Ntiyiso Consulting, Ipuma Group, MMQSPACE and Rujugiro Investments,” says Gumbi.
